High St, Tuddenham, Newmarket IP28 6SQ, UK – 01638 713552
Went for dinner a Tuddenham Mill, never been before. It's a lovely location only a few miles of the A14 between Bury At Edmunds and Newmarket. The restaurant itself is upstairs in the old water mill building, and the mill wheel and stone are still there built in as part of the the room with glass floor lights so you can see it comming up from below, a lovely touch. My wife has gluten and dairy intolerance, and this was catered for easily because all the food is freshly cooked on site. The food itself was excellent, each course arrived with what I considered a sensible amount of time between them, and there is a good selection of contemporary food and drink available at not unreasonable prices. The food I had was superb quality with a beautiful blend of flavours cooked expertly and I would happily eat it again. The service was also first rate with good with communication between serving staff covering both the food and the drinks, and the lady at the front of house being welcoming and accommodating to our every need, even having a chat with us at the end of the meal about her time working there. There is a real pride in what they do at this restaurant and that should not be underestimated. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evening in picturesque surroundings, we came away very happy and would highly recommend giving it a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Interestingly converted Mill in a small village North of Newmarket. Not cheap, but food and ambiance very good. Pleasant grounds for a stroll and lovely views from the Mill across the pond. Adjacent road busier than expected.
A11 Fiveways Roundabout, Barton Mills, Bury Saint Edmunds IP28 6AE, UK – 0871 984 6006
Good sized family room (double with two singles, and still space to move around). Bathroom was a bit tired, wobbly floor with a crack in the waterproof flooring. Our room got very hot with four of us in there, but no AC, windows only open an inch. Little security as you can walk in off the street and get through reception without a key. No on site catering (breakfast boxes available) but plenty of eateries nearby. Convenient location just off Fiveways Island though.
Another great Travelodge 2 star Hotel. Its quiet, comfortable, safe, cheap, free parking and lot more to offer. There is Burger King, Subway and a Motorway petrol station just around the corner. Don't forget that these restaurants gives you a discount if you are a overnight guest at Travelodge. Make sure to bring your key with you. I recommend Travelodge Barton Mills to anyone.
14 The Precinct, Market Place, Mildenhall, Suffolk IP28 7EF, UK – 01638 712194
Place was very dirty. Marks on all the walls. Floor needed a good mop and the mens toilet was disgusting. The manager needs to look at the place and sort it out. It was quiet so no excuse for the staff not to clean the place up a little.
Great stop for the fried chicken cravings. The meals are decent sized and flavorful.
